Egypt has joined an exclusive group of African nations to have scored against Argentina in World Cup history, bringing the total to five teams. Defender Yasser Ibrahim's goal in the Round of 16 clash between the two nations at the 2026 World Cup secured Egypt's place in this distinction.

Algeria stands alone among African teams as the exception to this trend. The North African side fell to Argentina 3-0 in the first round of the current tournament, becoming the only African nation never to have registered a goal against the three-time world champions across all their World Cup encounters.

Cameroon etched its name into World Cup folklore by delivering one of the tournament's greatest upsets, defeating Argentina 1-0 during the 1990 edition.

Nigeria has been particularly prolific in this regard, scoring six goals across five separate World Cup matches against Argentina spanning 1994, 2002, 2010, 2014, and 2018.

Côte d'Ivoire added to this record by netting one goal during the 2006 World Cup, while Cape Verde more recently scored twice in their Round of 32 encounter at the 2026 tournament.

With Egypt's latest achievement, the nation continues to build on African representation in competitive matchups with Argentina, now standing as the fifth African side to breach Argentina's defense throughout World Cup history.
