The U.S. military announced on July 8, 2026, that forces have commenced a fresh round of strikes targeting Iran, acting on direct orders from President Donald Trump in his capacity as supreme commander of the armed forces.

The Central Command confirmed that the operations were being carried out pursuant to presidential directives.

Iranian state media outlets reported significant developments in the immediate aftermath. The Mehr news agency stated that the Bushehr nuclear power station sustained no damage from the American strikes. However, Iranian media sources documented explosion sounds emanating from Abu Musa Island and the port city of Jask.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, a power outage affected portions of Jahahar, an Iranian city, following reports of explosion sounds in the area.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps indicated that a response to the American strikes would be forthcoming.

In a separate development, Lebanese singer Fadel Shaker commented publicly for the first time following his release. "Today, new chapters of freedom have been written for me, and I am grateful to God first and foremost, and to everyone who stood by my side and supported me in my case," Shaker stated. He requested understanding regarding his health and family circumstances, and asked for a brief period to recover and attend to family matters.
