Istanbul Seismologist Emphasizes Critical Week Ahead Following Recent Tremors

A seismologist has cautioned residents of Istanbul to pay close attention to the coming week, describing it as a pivotal period for monitoring seismic activity in the region.

Recent earthquakes have set off a chain of pressure redistributions along the fault line, triggered by minor ground movements, the expert explained. These small tremors serve as indicators of broader tectonic shifts taking place beneath the surface.

The critical threshold for specialists will be whether an earthquake measuring above 4 on the Richter scale strikes within the next three to seven days. Should such an event occur, it would offer valuable information about the current condition of the fault and the types of movements currently underway.

The seismologist urged caution against focusing solely on worst-case scenarios involving a major earthquake exceeding magnitude 7 on the Richter scale. Instead, he emphasized that multiple potential outcomes could unfold as the seismic situation develops in the Sea of Marmara region.
