Israeli Withdrawal From Southern Lebanon Remains Stalled; Pilot Program Limited to Two Towns

The anticipated Israeli military pullback from southern Lebanon continues to languish in preliminary stages, with uncertainty surrounding whether a pilot initiative has actually commenced despite prior agreements with the Lebanese government on the matter. Israeli security officials remain focused on maintaining strict conditions in territories designated for the withdrawal.

According to reporting from the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, implementation of the pilot withdrawal program has not yet started, notwithstanding understandings previously negotiated between Israeli and Lebanese officials regarding the operation.

The scope of the initial withdrawal effort is highly circumscribed. The Israeli military is slated to withdraw exclusively from the towns of Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Zawtar al-Gharbiya, in accordance with the current arrangements established with the Lebanese side.

A significant procedural requirement has emerged from Israeli demands: the United States has been tasked with verifying that the designated pilot areas contain no military installations operated by Hezbollah.
