Zahle Mourns Former Parliamentarian George Kassarji

The death of George Abdeen Kassarji, who reached the age of 88, marks the passing of a significant figure in Lebanese industrial circles and parliamentary affairs. Before his entry into political representation, Kassarji had established a substantial presence in the industrial sector across Lebanon and several Arab nations.

His legislative career encompassed four parliamentary mandates, during which he served as the representative for the second Bekaa district in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2005. Throughout his tenure in parliament, Kassarji held positions on multiple committees, notably the Public Works and Transport Committee and the Information, Post and Transportation Committee. He also served in the capacity of rapporteur for the Information Technology Committee and maintained membership in the Popular Bloc under the leadership of the late MP Elias Skaf.

Kassarji is survived by his wife, Aida Jamil Al-Khuwairi. His extended family includes his siblings and their descendants, as well as numerous relatives through marriage, including the families of Bedrosian, Sharshafji, Shami, Khanjian, Boghosian, Kassar, and Foskorian, with members scattered across Lebanon and internationally.

The funeral service will take place at 4 pm on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Deliverance in Zahle. Members of the public and those wishing to pay respects may do so during designated visiting hours: Tuesday from 10 am to 7 pm at the cathedral salon, and Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 11 am to 6 pm at the Armenian Catholic Cathedral of Saints Gregory the Illuminator and Elias the Prophet in central Beirut.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family has requested that condolences be expressed through donations to the church. Burial will take place in the cemetery according to family wishes.
